Abstract
:
Phosphate ores represent an important and economic source for the production of phosphoric acid which is the major component in the process of phosphate fertilizers production. Last decades have seen an upsurge of interest on the application of novel methods for trace and ultra trace analysis of inorganic pollutants in our environment. Along with essential elements phosphate fertilizers contain trace amounts of heavy elements and naturally occurring radioisotopes such as uranium, thorium and their decay products. Uranium and its compounds proved to be a radioactive and toxic. Therefore, determination of uranium is very important in assessing risks involved in dealing with uranium. This area is a very active area of research and many methods have been developed for determination of uranium. However, there is a lack of procedures of the determination in the ultra trace levels. In this proposal we are presenting a novel method for uranium determination in the ultra trace levels employing adsorptive cathodic stripping voltammetry in combination with some selective solid sorbents. This method, if developed will provide a simple, low cost procedure for the collection of trace and ultra trace concentration of uranium and subsequent determination in different matrices. This will enrich and enhance the ability of uranium determination and solve many interference problems associated with spectrometric methods.
