This study aims at identifying element of the character in the novels of Ghazi alGosaibi, through his way of building the characters, drawing its features and its
internal and external formation, and then addressing its artistic dimensions and
significance, identifying its types and patterns, and then the relationship of all above
with its (character) role in the course of movement and evolution of the events, and
its correlation with the other elements such as time, location, language and narrative
context.
The study in chapter one dealt with: the character between drawing and creating, and
the difference between the characters of the novel and the novels of character, as well
as the difference between the event novel and character novel, and then the character
between the narrator and the author. In addition to this, the study presented in chapter
two to study the relationship between character and the parallel texts of names,
addresses, external and internal drawings, dedication, and dividing some parts.
Chapter three: addressing the artistic dimensions that contributed to the formation and
composition of character. These dimensions are fundamental and varied, such as
physical, psychological, mental, moral, social, political, economic, and cultural
dimension. Chapter four dealt with two main pivots to study the novelist character
which are the types and patterns. The first pivot focused on the static character and the
dynamic character. The second pivot: focused on character's patterns such as central
character, hero, secondary (minor), marginalized, and in transit character. Chapter
five: dealt with the relationship between the character and the narration techniques or
the major elements, such as language, place, time, and event, and then the interaction
and integration of these elements with each in performing narrative context.
The study reached a set of results, the most important; the novels of Al-Gosaibi
considered character novels and not event novels. At most, the characters are of high
culture. The investment of Al-Gosaibi of the inherited Arabic heritage was clear,
especially for quoting poetry and proverbs. It is clear also his interest in the names of
characters to reflect the moral meaning to the text, and the narrator is the most
prominent narration techniques that revealed the intervention of Al-Gosaibi in the
narrative text. Al-Gosaibi was depended on the way of dialogue in his narrative
method with characters. Ghazi Al-Gosaibi's real character sometimes overlaps with
the main characters in the novels, and the negative behavior and act in Al-Gosaibi's
characters are prevailing. Some Al-Gosaibi's characters reflected the Saudi local
identity, while the ends of the characters, especially the heroes come in tragic and
splenetic scenes. |
