Abstract |

This study is to discuss the poetry of Osama Bin Munqeth especially
with the abundant religious intertextuality, which relies on intertextuality
as being an important topic in critique studies. The study has discussed
the concept of Intertextuality, emergence in old Arabic Literature and its
reliance on several terms such as inclusion, quotation, and plagiarism.
The study also discusses emergence in Western Modern Literature and its
extension to the Arab World. The study has also introduced an overview
about the life of Osama Bin Munqeth, the environment and its role in
religious intertextuality. The Crusades during the Ayyoubides Era were
among the most important factors that motivated Osama Bin Munqeth for
intertextuality. In fact, Intertextuality relies on several mechanisms by
which the reader could extract its creative potentials to comprehend the
text and its various intertextualities. Intertextuality together with Quranic
structures are characterized by several mechanisms such as conforming
intertextuality, where the Quranic text is invoked without addition or
omission. Partial Intertextuality comes in several levels as it might
intertwine with Quranic structures with addition or omission. There is
also the concept of ta’qdeem and ta’khir in the words of the text so that a
new text is introduced as being new for the changes occurred into the
structure. Condensed abridgement leading to the meaning without recall
of the entire text. Intertextuality can also be used through reference, hint
with a word or meaning. However, Simile is considered one of the
mechanisms of intertextuality where Osama Bin Munqeth has sheltered to
in its poetry in order to satisfy the meaning in the poetic text through this
mechanism. According to this mechanism, the poet can fathom the
depths. On the other hand, in substitute intertextuality, the subject or the
pronoun is replaced with a sentence or other. Sometimes, it comes
through omission so that it points out to a new meaning and sense; hence,
providing the original text with an aesthetic aspect because of such
substitution. All these mechanisms were employed by Osama Bin
Munqeth in his poetry taking benefit from structures and wide scope of
semantics. In terms of Intertextuality with a single term, this topic is
characterized by selecting a certain single term that no other term can
perform instead of its in terms of the intended meaning. Therefore,ج
Osama used the mechanism of substitute intertextuality in the verb. This
can be done through replacement of a verb with a synonymous verb.
However, the textual intertextuality comes along with the Quranic single
word linguistically without any alteration or change into the Quranic
word – focusing on correlative terms such as Paradise and Hell, Glory
and Disgrace, Sin and Right Guidance, etc. Moreover, religious figures
have its own presence in the poetic text, varying between positivity
embodies in Prophets (PBUH) and negative figures who were less in
presence. A number of figures correlated with tyranny and despotism
were evoked such as Pharaoh and A’ad People, together with the slogan
of Cross. In addition, Prophet’s Hadith was present at the level of
intertextuality since it reacts with literal structures and the contextual
meaning without any alteration to the text. The other level, which is only
concerned with the presence of the prophetic meaning, comes to produce
a new meaning. Intertextuality using prophetic terms is very less.
The study concluded with intertextuality with Islamic terms. Hence, the
texts created by Osama Bin Munqeth were featured by a religious sense
through employing ethics such as patience and reinforcement of the
pillars of Islam such as belief in destiny and fate, submission to ALLAH,
acknowledgment of Divinity of ALLAH and His Names and
Characteristics. Therefore, Osama’s collection of poems emerged as a
religious encyclopedia in terms of Holy Quran, Hadith and Islamic terms. |
